While semi-retired, Chuck remains active at Shields Marina and is on premise most days. He and his wife Pam bought the marina from his parents in 1972 and through the years Chuck has developed it into what it is today from what it was – a small “Mom & Pop” operation. But he acknowledges that while he worked hard to accomplish his goals, he couldn’t have done it without the support and hard work of our employees, many who have been with us for years, the addition of his son Brett to the marina staff and the long-time patronage of our customers.

Brett grew up coming to St. Marks on most weekends and living here during the summer months while growing up in Tallahassee. He worked at the marina part time during high school and college. His degree is in Building and Construction from the University of West Florida. After college, he worked as a project manager for Ajax Construction in Tallahassee but after a few years, he missed marina life and returned to Shields Marina. Brett’s experience and education in the construction industry has greatly contributed to what our facility is today as he has been in charge of all new construction in addition to his other responsibilities. He serves as president and enjoys handling the majority of the boat, motor and trailer sales. He and his wife Cathy have three children, two daughters and a son.

Gil joined Shields Marina in July of 2016. He moved from Miami where for over 15 years, he was the owner/operator of Dave’s Car Clinic in South Miami. He worked his way up from technician to supervising manager and then owner. Gil grew up with a love of the water, boats and all things mechanical. After serving in the US Army, he worked for General Marine doing everything from engine repair, painting, electrical and fiberglass work. At Shields Marina, he has been able to get back to his love of all things nautical. As the service manager, he works closely with both the technicians as well as the customers. Gil prides himself on going above and beyond to provide the best customer service possible. Gil lost his wife in 2021. (Lynda was a school teacher in Crawfordville.) He has two grown children and two grandchildren. Gil resides in Crawfordville. .

Cleve joined our Marina Family on February 14,2023 as a part time employee for the Parts and service Department. Cleve brings a wealth of knowledge having worked in the parts and service industry for the last 30 years. Cleve loves college baseball and football, as well as boating, fishing, hiking and all kinds of out door activities. Cleve and his wife Karen moved to Wakulla County 14 years ago.

Charlotte joined us in 2000 and has been a great asset serving as a clerk in the ship store as well as backup in Shipping & Receiving. In March of 2016, she was promoted to our purchasing agent and is in charge of shipping and receiving. She grew up in the area and was basically a stay-at-home mom until she began working at the marina. If you have been a customer for any length of time, Charlotte knows who you are. Her duties and responsibilities are vast. She and her husband Carson (who also works with us at the marina) have five children and severaal grandchildren. Charlotte enjoys cooking, fishing, NASCAR and football.

Aaron started working at Shields Marina in February 2021. Aaron is a native of Tallahassee. He brings a wealth of knowledge with him having worked in management for Bruno's grocery in his earlier years and for the past 22 years before joining our marina family, he worked as the controller for Sunshine Savings Bank which then merged with The First Bank. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with friends and family. Aaron likes outdoor activities such as day trips to the beach, hiking and riding bike trails around the Florida Panhandle & Big Bend. He also enjoys being out on the water, especially during scallop season, kayaking and going on tubing adventures, also seeking out and visiting craft breweries and trying out their new flavors. Other interests are automobiles, old and new , and golf. Aaron likes to travel and has been to over half of the national and state parks in the USA.

Andria started working at Shields Marina in July of 2019. She was born and raised in Monticello, Florida coming from a large, close knit family and currently resides here in St. Marks. Andria is the executive assistant to both Brett & Chuck Shields and is in charge of all of the human resource responsibilities. She brings a wealth of experience to our operation. For 8 years she worked as a correctional officer at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department and for 14 years she worked as an operations manager at Sunshine Savings Bank in Tallahassee. She has excellent management and leadership skills and extensive knowledge of financial and accounting practices. Andria resides here in St. Marks and has two daughters.

Tracy joined our marina family in 2017 in the position of ship store clerk. She was born in Tallahassee and raised in Woodville & St. Marks. She has strong ties to the community as her father was born and raised in St. Marks and worked for the City for years. Tracy has one son. When not working, she likes to read and loves being on the water. She worked for the Leon County Clerk’s office for 23 years as well as working for Vail Ski Resort one ski season in Breckinridge, Colorado. She is a true “people person” and provides great customer service. Tracy resides here in St, Marks.

Nancy joined the marina family as a clerk in the ship store in September of 2020. However, her background is in the medical field having worked as a dental assistant for 37 years. Originally from Ohio, she and her husband Randy now reside in Crawfordville. Nancy loves the outdoors and its many activities including sports and gardening. And she is known to share her home grown vegetables with her friends and colleagues.

Michael joined our Marina family February 8,2023 as a part time clerk in the ship store. Michael grew up in Wacissa ,FL and is a graduate of Florida High in Tallahassee, FL . He enjoys fishing with his grand parents, bowling with his father and all Church functions and activities.

Mike was hired in 1983 right out of high school and today is a wealth of knowledge because of both his many continuing ed courses and certifications as well as his on- the-job experiences. He is a certified profession technician for all of the Evinrude systems. Mike is a master technician for Yamaha outboard, fuel, electrical, 4-stroke, drive train, advanced systems as well as inline engine systems. In addition he has experience with Honda, Suzuki & Mercury. He and his wife Shannon have grown children and reside in Wakulla County.

Gary joined Shields Marina in 2012 after deciding that he had had enough fun in the snow and living up North. His technical training and experience started in 1988 while working at Indianapolis South Marina. He is a Mercruiser Master Technician, has completed numerous courses on Mercury Outboard motors and also has experience with Volvo Penta, Caterpillar and Cummins. Gary totally understands boat and motors and participated in off-shore racing for five years as crew chief and navigator. He is single and resides in St. Marks.

After 20 years doing fiberglass fabrication and reconstruction at other businesses, Carson joined our marina family in 2009. He brought with him a wealth of knowledge in redoing and repairing anything that calls for fiberglass and/or gelcoat refurbishing. As he says, “If the work involves fiberglass, I can fix it”. Carson is married to another marina employee, Charlotte. His passion is being outdoors and he loves to grill! He and his wife reside in Wakulla County.

Dylan started working at Shields Marina as a dock hand in April of 2019. He graduated from Wakulla High School and lives in Crawfordville. Being interested in learning more about the service part of our business, Dylan learned how to rig our new boats and as of March of 2021, he became a full time rigger. His hobbies include fishing & boating.

Gary joined us in 2006 and we are happy to say that he is still part of our marina family. His background was predominately in residential, commercial and industrial construction in the Steamboat Springs, Colorado area. He also served our country by being a combat engineer for the US Army and the National Guard. In addition to his construction background, Gary was a fireman in one of Florida’s small towns. While he is primarily a fork lift operator, he also fills in when needed in other areas due to his experience and background. He is single and resides in St. Marks

Tony started working with us in August of 2019 helping with the construction of our western boat basin. In May of 2020, he moved to the position of Forklift Operator. Tony has always worked on the water in one capacity or another working on a fishing boat, guide boats; he ran a shrimp boat and was an oysterman for years. He also spent ten years driving seafood trucks across the USA. His hobbies include fishing, hunting, shooting pool, frog gigging, boating, camping and and other outdoor sports. Tony, like many of our employees, also resides in St. Marks.

Jake joined Shields Marina in May of 2013. He is originally from Weston, West Virginia but now resides in St. Marks. He has been a valuable asset to us, especially with all the construction that has been going on since Jake joined us. His hobbies are fishing, camping and traveling and family is very important to Jake.

John grew up around boats and works at the marina part time helping with various tasks. He also works part time at Riverside Marina where he runs their bar and we understand is an excellent bar tender. John lives here in St. Marks spending part of the time on his boat and other time at his home here.

Kelly joined the marina family in March of 2012. She is like a "jack" or should we say, "Jill of all trades" but her main duties pertain to working with the forklift drivers in putting boats in and out of the water, helping with the boat rentals and supervising the dock hands. On occasion, she also operates the forklift. Kelly resides also resides here in St. Marks.

Johnny is a student at Wakulla High and works at the marina as a dock hand but does so much more when not helping customers with their boats at the dock. He joined our marina family in the Spring of 2022. He was born and raised here in Wakulla County.
